Overview

SciSeek ("we," "us," or "our") operates sciseek.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our website, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We keep this simple because our site is simple — you ask science questions and we answer them.

Information We Collect

Questions you submit. When you type a science question and submit it, that question text is sent to our AI service (Anthropic) to generate an answer. We do not store your questions in our own database, though Anthropic may process them in accordance with their own privacy policy.

Feedback votes. If you click the thumbs up or thumbs down button after receiving an answer, we may record that vote along with the associated question text to help us understand answer quality. No personal information is attached to these votes.

Standard server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically collects basic technical information when you visit — your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This is standard web infrastructure logging, not active tracking.

We do not collect:

  • Your name or email address (unless you contact us directly)
  • Account information (there are no accounts)
  • Payment information (the service is free)
  • Location data beyond general IP-based country/region

Cookies and Local Storage

SciSeek uses your browser's localStorage (not cookies) to enforce a rate limit of 10 questions per hour per browser. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers. It contains only a question count and a reset timestamp. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.

How We Use Information

The question text you submit is used solely to generate an AI response and deliver it back to you. We do not use your questions to build profiles, target advertising, or sell data to third parties.

Aggregate, anonymized feedback data (thumbs up/down tallies) may be used to evaluate and improve answer quality over time.

Third-Party Services

Anthropic. Your question text is transmitted to Anthropic's API to generate answers. Anthropic is the AI company behind the Claude model that powers SciSeek AI. Their handling of API data is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

Cloudflare. Our site and API requests are served through Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare may process request metadata as part of standard CDN and security operations. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other behavioral advertising or tracking services.

Data Retention

We do not maintain a database of user questions or sessions. Server logs retained by our hosting provider are typically held for 30 days before being deleted. Feedback vote data, if stored, is kept in aggregate form with no personally identifying information.

Children's Privacy

SciSeek is a general science resource suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our site, please contact us and we will take prompt action to remove it.

Your Rights

Because we collect minimal personal data, there is very little to request, correct, or delete. If you have contacted us via email and want that correspondence deleted, or have any other privacy concern, please reach out at our contact page and we will respond promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we materially change how we handle your data, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of SciSeek after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
